2207.16: registration closed

Please distribute as soon as possible the news that registration has been closed this morning for the 2022 PNKF Iaido Seminar, Taikai, and Shinsa in October. The deadline was set for 9/17, but within 48 hours of registration opening we exceeded our maximum of 80. 88 attendees are currently registered.

We will now only consider adding instructors and high rank shinsa candidates who may contact us.

2208.01: Important deadline change for paperwork and payment

The deadline for 2022 PNKF Iaido Seminar/Taikai/Shinsa and AUSKF Iaido Shinsa was originally set to September 24th. Due to an overwhelming response to seminar registrations and shinsa applications, please submit paperwork, essays, and checks no later than Wednesday, August 31st. This will help us tremendously to get everything ready on time and in order for this very large important event. If you have difficulties to meet this new deadline for some reason, however, please let me know. You may take extra time, but absolutely must be received by Saturday, September 24th.

If you are taking a promotion exam, following paperwork is required. You can email them to me for your convenience.

• Essays for 1 Kyu and up applicants
• AUSKF members outside PNKF for PNKF Shinsa (up to 3 Dan only): Request for Kendo/Iaido Examination by an Affiliate Organization of the AUSKF signed by the member federation president and a copy of menjyo (certificate)
• AUSKF members for AUSKF Shinsa (4 - 5 Dan only): "Request for Kendo/Iaido Examination by an Affiliate Organization of the AUSKF signed by the member federation president" is also required as well as a copy of menjyo (certificate)
• FIK members outside AUSKF: Approval letter from the AUSKF VP of Promotions obtained by submitting Application Request Form for Promotion Examination from FIK affiliated Organizations and copy of menjyo (certificate)

Separate checks for each item listed below still need to be sent by USPS mail. Please refer to the attached announcement package for each fee (note that the deadline mentioned in this file is no longer applicable, but everything else should be valid).

• One check covering seminar fee, banquet ticket(s), taikai and donation.
• One check for shinsa fee if you are taking a promotion exam.
• One check for menjo (certificate) fee if you are taking a promotion exam.

2208.14: 2022 PNKF Iaido Taikai information

Saturday, October 8 2-5:00pm

Please see the information below. We hope this will help and encourage you to prepare for your competition.

Competitor's Pledge
On behalf of all competitors, the competitor's pledge will be recited by a representative of all participants at the beginning of the event. Participation in the taikai implies consent and adherence to this pledge.
"We, the participants of the 2022 PNKF Iaido Taikai, do hereby swear to abide by the rules set forth for this tournament, understanding that the decisions of the judges are final."

Format
The 2022 PNKF Iaido Taikai will feature four division brackets: 0-3 Kyu, 2 Kyu to 1 Dan, 2-3 Dan, and 4-5 Dan. There will not be a team competition.

• 0-3 Kyu, 2 Kyu-1 Dan, 2-3 Dan: Perform reiho and five Seitei shiteiwaza within 6 minutes
• 4-5 Dan: Perform two koryu waza of your choice plus 3 Seitei shiteiwaza within 6 minutes

General Rules
Regulation of matches will follow as closely as possible "The Rules and Regulations of Iaido Shiai and Shinpan", published by Zen Nippon Kendo Renmei. A competitor who does not show up at the court within 5 minutes after being called by name shall be regarded as in default and will be disqualified.

General Information

We're looking forward to seeing you at the seminar! We anticipate a wonderful experience for all, and are very grateful for all our instructors and volunteers. Some of you may be contacted soon with individual requests to assist us with various tasks: please watch for this email.

There is a bit of information we need to communicate beforehand. Please look below for details regarding parking, requested dress, and banquet information. Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.

• Transportation & Parking
  Parking at Rain City Fencing Center is very limited. Those who need ready access will have reserved spots at the venue. Please carpool whenever possible. Despite our pleas, no area businesses have authorized use of their lots during the weekend: park at your own risk. If you do not have a designated space and need parking, you may find space at the nearby Evergreen Shopping Mall (1645 140th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98005) and walk to the venue.
• Taikai
  4-5 Dan judges are asked to wear keikogi/hakama.
• Saturday Banquet This promises to be a fairly fabulous affair devoted to thanking our guests and stalwart volunteers. Requested dress is "business casual;" please, no jeans. The menu for the evening will be a mouth-watering selection of Northwest favorites, with selections intended to satisfy all. US $2.00 per glass donation for Northwest beers, ciders and wines at the cash-only bar; exact change appreciated. We will observe an honor system, and because of higher-than-expected costs, will be profoundly grateful for any donations.
• Matsu Budogu And finally, take full advantage of Matsu Budogu's generous pre-order discount offer. Matsu Budogu will be our equipment vendors at this event. Revised PNKF/AUSKF Iaido event schedule was sent to you in mid-July. Apparently the email text didn't have the correct shinsa and seminar schedule on Sunday, October 9 while it appears correctly in the registration package.
