The shadow of the moon darkens the low clouds and hills to the right (west) first. Although this auto-exposure camera doesn't properly show the eclipsed sun itself, you can still get a good feel for how quickly totality comes on.
During totality, Venus is visible to the upper right of the Sun. A plane also flies between Venus and the Sun during the eclipse.
