In the past few months, the solar activity has finally begun to pick up in the form of an increased number of sunspots. After several years of a virtually "smooth" appearance, it was quite nice to see a large sunspot group.
This photo (enlarged sections at right) is a result of stacking 43 of the best of 580 shots taken with a Nikon D700 DSLR, behind a Borg 100ED refractor with 2x Nikon teleconverter, yielding a focal length of 1280 mm.
Exposures were 1/2000 sec. each at ISO 200. The filter used is a Thousand Oaks Type II (ND5) broadband solar filter. Processing was done with Lightroom and Registax 6. |
