For this eclipse, Jean wanted to go beyond her previous efforts in creating a pinhole projection
pattern. To make the mask easier to produce and use during the eclipse, she punched holes in a pattern
sketched on paper and backed by aluminum foil (see photos below).
The mask was mounted in a cardboard frame to provide stiffness. The frame included a hole designed to
attach it to the lens of the camera (an Olympus pocket digital camera) being used to photograph the pinhole pattern.
She used a length of string to set the distance from the camera/pinhole card to the projection
screen (see below).
Unfortunately, the hazy sky conditions caused the pinhole images to be washed out.
We're hoping for better results at Easter Island in 2010!
