Scope Diagram Astrocamera.Net - Astrophotography by Dave Kodama

Rho Ophiuchus Region

This area, spanning parts of Ophiuchus and Scorpius, is a favorite area of photgraphers because of the range of colors and variety of objects visible in a single shot. The brightest star is Antares, and the two globular clusters are M4 (to the right of Antares) and NGC 6144 (above and to the right of Antares). Note the dark areas above and to the left of Antares where clouds of matter are obscuring the background stars of the Milky Way.

Vignetting (dark areas in the corners of the photo) is caused by the narrow opening of the Pentax 67 camera coupling used for this setup.
