Note: please sign up now even if you don't think you'll be able to
participate regularly until later in the year. There is no benefit
to delaying (federation dues are not prorated, so they are the same
whether you join now or in December).
For returning yudansha, your membership will be continuous from
last year and you will be eligible for the SCKF Championship
tournaments in June and September.
We need new members, please contact your
friends and family. And all former members are welcome back!
If you know anyone who is "missing in action", please contact
them to let them know.

Funeral services for dojo president Brian Yoon's father will be
held at 7pm in Korea Town at
Han Kook Mortuary, 2045 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90018.

monthly dojo tournament
From this month on we will do round robin tournaments (everyone
fights everyone else) whenever there are less than 6 people in a
division. Time limit 2 minutes, no encho or hantei, 1st place goes to
the person with the most wins, then the most points won.
In case of tie there will be a 2-minute 1ppon shobu playoff.

- Center plumbing and repair issues April-July
A major plumbing problem shut down all Center activities from
4/28/16 through 5/5/16.
We were able to resume keiko on Friday 5/6,
using the bathrooms in the classroom wing with the kitchen and
gym-side restrooms off limits.
On 5/18 the leaking pipe was capped off and running water was restored,
though repairs were still in progress for the kitchen dry wall and the
drain in the men's restroom in the classroom wing.
The entire Center was closed from Mon 6/6 through Fri 6/10 to
continue repairs including preparing for new flooring in the front
hallways and classrooms 1 and 2 (our dressing rooms).
We were able to resume practice on Sun 6/12.
Contract work finally started 7/13, making access to the gym and
bathrooms complicated.
By 7/15 the front glass doors and the north door by the telephone
room were available for use, along with the kitchen-side restrooms.
The wall between classrooms 1 and 2 was torn
down to make one large meeting room.
By 7/17 the kitchen was cleaned and ready for use, just in the nick
of time for the carnival!
Mr Yoshimura also installed magnetic doorstops for the major doorways,
obviating the use of wooden door wedges.
The remaining item is installation of a sliding partition to divide
room 1 and 2, which will be take place in August.

This is Japanese school's annual summer program for 5-10 year olds.

Ondo practice for the cultural festival will be conducted in
the front parking lot on Mondays and Thursdays in July from 7:30pm.
For Monday keiko, please do not park in the area by the ondo circle,
and be careful of the ondo participants, especially small children.

THANK YOU so much to everyone who came
out to help with the carnival. It was a lot of hard work in the summer
heat, but as usual the camaraderie and great food made it all
worthwhile!
Thanks also to the following volunteers for putting on the
demonstration: Kodama Jean, Yoshimura Steve, Nguyen Emil, Domen Sumi,
Kim Ryan, and Liao William. Big thanks to Nakagawa Takeshi for coming
up with the suggestions to do the demonstration in the judo
room and the audience participation portion of the demo, both of
which were big hits.

We will be vanpooling up Saturday morning, leaving the dojo

From 9/8 until the fall shinsa we will
have kata practice on Thursdays after Dance Club is done with the gym
(typically 9:20-9:30, but they could go later especially in October).
All kenshi 3kyu and above are required to practice kata regardless
of (but especially to prepare for) shinsa.
If you cannot make it Thursday, you may make it up the following
Monday.
Lack of participation and appropriate kata proficiency will make you
ineligible for shinsa this fall and next spring.

Norwalk Kendo Dojo is hosting center bingo night, so we will need
donation of homemade desserts for the bingo night (eg cookies, cakes,
cupcakes, pies, etc; non-homemade desserts are also ok). We will also
need volunteers for the following help on Friday 9/30 and Saturday
10/1:
- 1. Kitchen help Friday 8pm-10pm and Saturday 3pm-6pm
- 2. BBQ Saturday 3pm-6pm
- 3. Serving from 5:30pm-8:30pm

support the Budokan of Los Angeles (BoLA). SCKF's goal is to have each

The multipurpose room (aka judo room) is having its floor replaced.
Judo needs a place to practice on Fridays, so they will use the gym
on 11/25 and we will share the gym with them on 12/2 and 12/9.

Judo will be using the gym tonight.
