Norwalk Dojo is hosting Team SCKF practices preparing for the
All US
Kendo Championships 6/26-29/14 in San Diego.

Brief excerpts:
- Bingo: taiko 2/1, NYS 3/1 and 4/5. NYS nights will be family nights,
where kids play free and win prizes instead of cash. Deadline for
dinner head count is due by 2/21. Dinner is purchased separately,
and all proceeds go to the Center.
- Kendo's reps to the advisory committee meeting are Kodama Jean and
Nakagawa Takeshi (replacing Yoon Brian)
- Nerio Scholarship application forms were handed out, due 3/1

- Team SCKF will finalize team membership at the 1/19 practice.
- AJKF Foreign Leaders's Camp: the Board voted to send Brown Nathan
(TOR) over Nguyen Emil (NOR) and Fachini Roger (SFV)
- Alhambra Dojo
held its first practice 1/7. For now it is just godo geiko,
since they have no new members. Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm.
- Park sensei is reopening his dojo in La Habra (formerly named
Ace Dojo)

Training, Norwalk Dojo 8am-12pm
Team SCKF will finalize most team membership at this practice.
Eliminations were held for junior boys, mudansha, and senior
divisions, followed by 30 min jigeiko.
Kodama Jean, Chang Jeffrey, Nguyen Emil, Yoon Courtney,
Trost Jeffrey, and Moon Joshua attended.

Also, thank you to Henmi sensei for coming back to help
Nguyen Emil and Tauchi Satoshi practice for kata embu at the
Kubota taikai. We took the opportunity to present him with a

And good job to Amano Shotaro and Yoon Brian for making it to the
quarter finals (court finals) in 3-4 dan!

Congratulations to Yoon Courtney for winning 1st place
in the 1dan and under ladies division!
Courtney, Brian, and Emil were also members of the SCKF senior team
(sempo T Horii, jiho T Makiuchi, chuken C Yoon, fukusho B Yoon,
taisho E Nguyen); unfortunately they lost in the court final against
Chinook Dojo, which took 1st place.

17 and under: $39
18 and over: $66
Deadline is Fri Mar 7.
If you cannot bring payment to the dojo by this date please email
norwalkkendo@gmail.com.
Note: please pay up now even if you don't think you'll be able to
participate regularly until later in the year. There is no benefit
to delaying (federation dues are the same whether you join now or
in December). If you join now, on the other hand, your federation
membership will be backdated to Jan 1, 2014. More importantly for
returning yudansha, your membership will be continuous from 2013 and
you will be eligible for the SCKF Championship tournaments in June
and September. Also, this year March membership numbers determine
AUSKF election voting.
If you know anyone who is "missing in action", please contact
them to let them know we welcome all members back!

Henmi sensei will be presented a certificate of appreciation
by the Center Board, so it would be great to show our support!

This is the last dojo tournament of the year, with 3 divisions
still up for grabs: 0-5 kyu (Cho Ryan and Kim Noah),
adult kyu (Trost Jeffrey and Choi Jonathan),
yudansha (Chang Jeffrey and Amano Shotaro). In case of tie, the 2014
division winner will be determined by playoff, or recent record
in case of no show. Note: normally we welcome other dojo kenshi to
do shiai, but for this month it will be restricted to Norwalk kenshi
only. Be sure to be on time!
We will also do dojo group photo following monthly tournament.
All kenshi registered in 2014 please attend. Dress in keikogi,
hakama, tare, and do. And all parents and friends of Norwalk please
be part of the Norwalk Kendo Family photo!
